I’m going to admit something that will expose me to ridicule and mockery from the general populace. It’s something I’m normally happy to share, but today is something I share with great sadness. So here it goes. I am a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Despite season after season of unfulfilled hopes, I continue to enter every season optimistically, thinking this will be their year. After only two weeks, it appears my hopes will go unfulfilled again. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a fair weather fan, and I will cheer for them to win and still wear my Vikings t-shirts even if they are 0-15 (which currently looks like a possibility).
I guess you can’t expect much when the quarterback is on pace to have 80 turnovers in a season. The reason I bring this up is that I was reading on the Vikings website this week about the coaches’ and players’ comments on the beginning of their season and it was funny to me how the answers to interviewer’s questions never change.
“How do you recover from a start like this?”
“We just have to go back at it this week and get better.” (You think? I mean come on, if you “get better” maybe you can lose by 20 instead of 30 next week!)
“How has this affected your confidence?”
“You just have to forget about last week. This is a new week and we like our chances.” (Your chances of what? Getting paid a lot of money to get humiliated on the football field?)
“I know you love to play Xbox, tell us about that.”
“We just have to go back at it this week and get better.”
“Do you wear briefs or boxers?”
“You just have to forget about last week. This is a new week and we like our chances.”
Seriously, I have no idea why they even do interviews anymore. The answers are the same every week, win or lose. Sometimes I wonder if people actually listen to the questions or if they just wait for the interviewer to stop talking and then select from their list of canned answers.
That’s my rant for the week. Hopefully the Vikings will take this week to “get better” and when next Sunday comes they’ll “like they’re chances.”

I like the Vikings a lot. For 23 years I have been waiting for them to win something substantial. I guess I'll keep waiting. Sometimes I support other teams so I can feel good about football, but that only happens with some connection to the Vikings (i.e. I have cheered for the Colts for a couple seasons because Tony Dungee is their coach).
Hey...at least the Broncos are 1-1! You are the man!
